On December 13th at the Frequency in Madison I will have the pleasure of playing with an emerging star on the indie/roots scene, Valerie June. She is a mixture of folk, blues, gospel, soul, country, Appalachian and bluegrass all sung in her unique voice.
I’m excited to be a part of such an amazing lineup of bands as part of Madison’s “Communion”! Definitely come out on a Wednesday night for this. More info:
Every once in a while in my line of work, I get to play a show that is so extraordinary and energizing that it fuels me for the months to come. This saturday will be one of those. It will be held in the shared backyard of four great fans of mine, and great music fans in general, which is lovingly referred to as “Fairyland” for it’s amazing vibe, trees, and lighting (see the pic below). It is a legitimate concert, complete w/a stage. People bring their own chairs/blankets, as well as a dish to pass (potluck style) to make it a summer evening party. The energy and attentiveness from the crowd feeds the performers to be their best and savor each note. I can’t urge you enough to come to this show…it’ll be from 6-10 pm (food at 6, show at 7), at this address:
Hey there, I’m proud to say that I’ve (finally!) accepted that having a Twitter account is essential, so now I can be followed at: @beebemusic.
Also, I’m excited to perform at the upcoming “Mile of Music” festival in Appleton, WI. A mile of downtown Appleton will be dedicated to hosting Americana-influenced music for 3 days in August (8-11), and I’ll be performing 3 times on the 9th & 10th. Some great roots-based artists will also be playing there, and you won’t want to miss it. Learn more on the website:
I am honored to be chosen by the Madison area community to receive an award for “Best Local Singer/Band” in the 2013 Madison Magazine Best of Madison poll!
Also, last night I was fortunate enough to win another MAMA (Madison Area Music Association) award for my song “Ghost” from the album “In This Place”;. Additionally, my side project/group The Beat Chefs took home a MAMA for “Hip-Hop Performer of the year”. Thank you all who voted and continue to support local music!
I am honored to be representing the Midwest at SxSW 2013 in Austin, along with some truly great acts as part of the Minnesota/WI collaborative showcase! Also, from now until March 15th, you can go here to vote for me in this year’s Madison Area Music Associaton awards. I’m nominated for 16 of them, but I’ll need your help to get to the finals!

On the heels of the amazing show tonight that I had the pleasure of playing with Meshell Ndegeoceollo, I thought I’d share with you this brand-new video showcasing my “live looping” rendition of Prince’s classic “When Doves Cry”. It was shot by the good folks at Vidwest Media (sound by Oriole Sound):
Happy Thanksgiving everyone! I just found out that I’ll be opening up for the well-respected and talented Michelle Ndegeocello next Friday, November 30th. It’ll be my first appearance at the Barrymore Theatre in Madison…one of my favorite venues in town. She’ll be doing an all-Nina Simone tribute set and I’m honored to be asked to open up the night for her and her band.
I’ll be playing a couple of exciting shows next week, as I pretend that I can distract you from the election. Next Tuesday, Nov. 6th (election night!!) I’ll be the 7 pm guest on “Mad Toast Live!”, a live concert held at the Brink Lounge showcasing regional and national talent that is recorded for airing on WORT (89.9 FM). I am honored to finally be part of this fine program. Come take your mind off of the election polling results and listen to some fine music.
On Wednesday, Nov. 7th, I’ll be one of 5 musical finalists to play in RAW Madison’s “RAWards” Finals Show. Held at the Majestic Theatre, it will also feature the finalists in a variety of artistic mediums (video, fashion, dance, visual art, etc). The winner will go on to represent Madison in the nation-wide finals show held in Hollywood! I am thrilled to have made it this far, and to be able to compete in Madison’s finals. Get your tickets early as it will sell out.
Also, I’d like to shed some light on this fine video taken from my CD release show in february:
Last Friday night’s show opening up for Darius Rucker at the Crystal Grand Theatre was unbelievable! Darius, formerly of Hootie & the Blowfish mega-fame, has had a recent career resurgence, and he draws a crowd like the best of ’em. I was honored to be asked to do it and thrilled to be playing in front of 2,000 people. I wasn’t sure if his crowd would “get” me, but they responded resoundingly well and made me feel like a superstar. Now I know that if I can get in front of people who are music fans, no matter how big the stage, I can win them over (even given just a half hour time slot). Here are some pics and video from the show:
