I am happy to announce that for the second year in a row I am a recipient of Madison Magazine’s “Best Singer/Band” award. Thank you Madison for casting a vote my way!
Also, I am honored that the good folks at Daytrotter included one of my songs (“Ashes”) in their list of the top 300 songs of 2013. I’m so glad they felt the performance went as well as I felt it did at the time…out of 5,000 songs by some top-notch artists.
This was definitely one of those special times that I feel lucky in my line of work to experience. A bit speechless…so many big, big names have done it, like Iron & Wine, Wilco, Mumford & Sons, The Lumineers, Bon Iver, MGMT, etc, and up-and-coming acts like my Wisco friends PHOX. All of the songs were recorded live in one take. Listen to the session here.
Extra special thanks to the musicians who accompanied me and lent their talents and personalities to the session:
Sophia Borgias (cello), Ela Mowinski (violin), Jeff Weiss (upright bass), and Roberto Garza (percussion, backing vox).
On December 13th at the Frequency in Madison I will have the pleasure of playing with an emerging star on the indie/roots scene, Valerie June. She is a mixture of folk, blues, gospel, soul, country, Appalachian and bluegrass all sung in her unique voice.
I’m excited to be a part of such an amazing lineup of bands as part of Madison’s “Communion”! Definitely come out on a Wednesday night for this. More info:
Every once in a while in my line of work, I get to play a show that is so extraordinary and energizing that it fuels me for the months to come. This saturday will be one of those. It will be held in the shared backyard of four great fans of mine, and great music fans in general, which is lovingly referred to as “Fairyland” for it’s amazing vibe, trees, and lighting (see the pic below). It is a legitimate concert, complete w/a stage. People bring their own chairs/blankets, as well as a dish to pass (potluck style) to make it a summer evening party. The energy and attentiveness from the crowd feeds the performers to be their best and savor each note. I can’t urge you enough to come to this show…it’ll be from 6-10 pm (food at 6, show at 7), at this address:
2215 Branch St.
Middleton, WI 53562
Please RSVP on this Evite.
Hey there, I’m proud to say that I’ve (finally!) accepted that having a Twitter account is essential, so now I can be followed at: @beebemusic.
Also, I’m excited to perform at the upcoming “Mile of Music” festival in Appleton, WI. A mile of downtown Appleton will be dedicated to hosting Americana-influenced music for 3 days in August (8-11), and I’ll be performing 3 times on the 9th & 10th. Some great roots-based artists will also be playing there, and you won’t want to miss it. Learn more on the website:
I am honored to be chosen by the Madison area community to receive an award for “Best Local Singer/Band” in the 2013 Madison Magazine Best of Madison poll!
Also, last night I was fortunate enough to win another MAMA (Madison Area Music Association) award for my song “Ghost” from the album “In This Place”;. Additionally, my side project/group The Beat Chefs took home a MAMA for “Hip-Hop Performer of the year”. Thank you all who voted and continue to support local music!
